East Windsor School Board Thanks 'Grandpals'

The East Windsor Regional Board of Education took time at its Monday meeting to thank the senior citizens who volunteer in classes as "Grandpals." Basic skills teacher Noelle Muscolino signed up four volunteers at the East Windsor Senior Center, and they are now hard at work at the Ethel McKnight Elementary School aiding students with reading and writing, science, and social studies.

"The patience and reassurance these Grandpals show to the students provides a comfortable and relaxing environment for learning and academic success. Having fun, playing games and developing word cards to learn new vocabulary words are some of the techniques used to stimulate learning," the district said in a press release. "The Grandpals are eager to see our students succeed."

The volunteers are:

  • Genero Goyzueta, who volunteers with third-graders
  • Carmen Dewindt, who works in bilingual classes in grades 1 and 2
  • Beverly Komoda, who works with fourth-graders
  • and Keith Sach, who volunteers in a fifth-grade class.

The board also thanked Renee Sachs, who last year volunteered in a bilingual kindergarten class.
