Meadow Lakes Residents Award More than $80,000 in Scholarship Funds to 31 Employees
EAST WINDSOR, NJ – August 9, 2012 – While high tuition costs and the burden of college debt continue to make headlines, residents of Meadow Lakes, a senior living community, have donated an exceptionally generous $80,000 to help 31 young employees and their families pay college bills.
In a ceremony held here in late July, winning applicants received scholarship funds in the amount of either $2,000 or $3,000 each from the resident-initiated and funded Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund. The winners represent a cross-section of South/Central New Jersey, coming from Trenton, East Windsor, Cranbury, Roosevelt, Hightstown, Hamilton and Millstone.
Scholarship fund award winners were selected based on an interview with the selection committee and a 300-word essay describing their proposed future career and the influences leading to this choice.
“The awards represent our way of saying ‘thank you’ for the service they’ve given us and to support them in pursuing their educations,” said Caroline Stuart, a Meadow Lakes resident who chairs the Education Award Fund.
In addition to Mrs. Stuart, the Education Award Fund is led by committee members Elma Weltchek, Jane Brewer, Mary Bauer, Helen MacKenzie and Catherine Poltronieri.
The Meadow Lakes Education Award Fund was launched in 2002 at the suggestion of Meadow Lakes residents, who wanted a way to recognize outstanding service and to help both full- and part-time employees further their education goals. The fund has raised nearly $600,000 since its launch.
Meadow Lakes is affiliated with Princeton-based Springpoint Senior Living, New Jersey’s leading not-for-profit provider of senior housing and care. To learn more, please visit www.meadowlakesonline.org.
