Reminder: Bone Marrow Registry Drive Saturday
Cranbury resident Dawn Maisano is in need of an urgent bone marrow transplant and is looking for a match.
On Saturday you can join the national bone marrow registry, Be The Match, by getting swabbed at the United Methodist Church of Cranbury from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration paperwork will need to be filled out, and all information is kept confidential, according to organizers.
Maisano started treatments for a bone marrow disorder that resulted in scarring of the bone marrow, called Myelofibrosis, according to a flyer. Now her marrow is not functioning properly and a transplant is needed.
“By registering for the National Marrow Donor Program not only could you potentially save the life of a complete stranger, you may find that you are able to save the life of a local Cranbury mom,” the flyer read.
Visit bethematch.org to make a monetary donation, for more information on the National Marrow Registry, donor qualifications or to fill out the paperwork in advance.
To get swabbed virtually, you can order a kit from bethematch.org. The attached flyer has more information on the virtual drive.
