SERV co-founder, area businessman to be honored at fundraiser

For the 22nd year, The SERV Foundation will sponsor its major fundraising event, the Volley For SERV Tennis Tournament, to support the mission of the Ewing-based nonprofit organization, SERV Behavioral Health System, Inc.  Founded in 1974, SERV provides safe homes and effective treatment for more than 1,000 special-needs individuals throughout New Jersey.

The annual tournament and reception will take place June 18, 2012 at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the major fundraising event of the SERV Foundation to support special programs for SERV consumers recovering from severe and persistent mental illnesses (such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder) and/or coping with developmental disabilities (such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy or autism).

This year, two men who have demonstrated a commitment to the mission of SERV will be honored during the Volley For SERV evening reception. Mark W. Fox, Esq., one of the original founding members of SERV Centers of New Jersey, will receive the SERVice Award, given to current or past SERV board members in appreciation of their demonstrated leadership and commitment to the mission of SERV. Mr. Fox is a partner in the law firm of Feldman, Fox & Morgado in Florida. Charles Villano, Jr., president of Forbes Liquors in Brick, will receive the 2nd annual Lou Natale Players Award for his continual support of SERV through participation in and sponsorship of the annual Volley For SERV.  Mr. Villano, a longtime player in the event, is affiliated with several Trenton-area organizations.

Besides the awards presentation, other activities during the reception, which begins at 5:30 p.m.  include hors d’oeuvres and cocktails on the veranda overlooking the pros finals, an exquisite dinner with live entertainment by singer/songwriter Ryche Chlanda, the presentation of awards to the tournament winners, a silent auction with items donated by area businesses and individuals, and the much-anticipated drawing for the Super 50/50 Cash Raffle (tickets may be purchased online).

Volley For SERV tickets are $190 per player, which includes lunch, tournament and dinner reception with open bar; or $85 for reception only, which includes dinner and open bar.

Other sponsorship levels for businesses and individuals wishing to support Volley For SERV include tennis participation, corporate banners or court signs, program book ads including congratulatory ads for the honorees, or donations of gift certificates or merchandise for the silent auction.

The Volley For SERV committee includes Villano, Richard Anderson, Ward Bauman, Beth Deitchman, Ted Golfinopoulos, Paul Kramer, Ann LoPrinzi, Bill Rue Jr., Pamela Sims Jones, Barry Szaferman, Rick White and David Whiting.
