Boil Advisory Lifted in Hightstown

Residents can use water normally.

The Boil Advisory in Hightstown has been lifted and residents may use water normally, according to Mayor Steven Kirson and the Department of Environmental Protection.

“We can now use water as usual,” Kirson said. He also noted sewage can be used normally as well.

The water treatment plant in Hightstown is still inoperable, and the Township is thankful for East Windsor providing water to the town, Kirson said.

It’s anticipated the water treatment plant will not be working for at least another week, Kirson said.

YES! Thank you to East Windsor! And thank you to Hightstown for being so on top of everything, to Larry Quattrone for stepping in and stepping up during this emergency, and to everyone else who has banded together to get through this! (And it figures... I just stocked up on water, paper plates, etc today... :) Not that I'm complaining!!)

I want to thank East Windsor Township officials for their generosity in providing water to the Borough. And a heartfelt thank you to all the public employees, volunteers, and local officials who have worked tirelessly to get us through this crisis and who will continue to work hard in the upcoming weeks to get things as back to normal as possible.

So...Do we need to flush our house water systems by running water out? By making and tossing 3 batches of ice from our ice machine? Or do we know that our existing water in the system is ok?

If memory serves from my college Microbiology class, they probably put the advisory in place for precautionary measures. Because the ban was lifted so soon, my guess is it indicates the water was never contaminated. In order to lift the Boil Water Advisory, they have to take a sample, have it come up clean, and then take another clean sample 48 hours later. They probably put the advisory in place because the pipes to EW water supply haven't been used for a while. If you've been using your water for bathing and for filling up containers to boil, my guess is you are good to go. **It would be nice to get an official answer from the Borough though.**

Tim,

I think this will help you.
What should you do when the boil water advisory is lifted? Issue Date: 09-01-2011

What should you do when the boil water advisory is lifted?

The following measures are strongly encouraged now that the boil water advisory is rescinded:

Run your water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with water from the service main.
Empty and clean your automatic ice makers and water chillers.
Drain and refill your hot water heater if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
Service connections with a water softener/cartridge filters should be run through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.
Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled.

Let's all thank the East Windsor Mayor for her generosity in letting Hightstown use their water system. That shows us that East Windsor is a good neighbor whom we can all count on.
