Clear Skies for Quadrantids Meteor Shower

Quadrantids will be visible to much of northern hemisphere.

Clear skies are forecast in the area tonight, which should greatly improve the visibility of the Quadrantids, the first meteor shower of the new year.

The shower will be in peak viewing time in the northern hemisphere between 3-5 a.m. local time, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 4, according to NASA.

The Quadrantids will put on a shooting star show in the pre-dawn hours, with approximately 100 visible meteors per hour, NASA said.

To view the shower, NASA recommends dressing warmly and going outside around 3 a.m., lying flat on your back on a blanket or sleeping bag, and looking up with as much of a view of the sky as possible in your field of vision. Be patient, and after around 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adjust and the meteors should become visible.
