Elizabeth Garzio and Drew Pulliam met in Cranbury in the early 1940s, just as America was entering World War II.
Then 15-year-old Garzio joined the USO and soon began dating then 18-year-old soldier Drew Pulliam.
The couple got engaged, but in 1943, during Pulliam’s battle with illness brought on by his fight in the war, they broke the engagement, and the two eventually went on to lead separate lives and marry others.
After 69 years, the couple reunited in the town they first courted, and they were married on Oct. 27 at the Gazebo in Village Park by Cranbury’s Mayor, David Cook.
