Flood Watch and Wind Advisory Issued for Area
Up to two inches of rain possible, stream and river flooding expected.
The weather didn't exactly provide a white Christmas, but the final days of 2012 are expected to bring a quite a bit of precipitation to the region.
A flood watch and high wind advisory has been issued for the area Wednesday evening into Thursday morning by the National Weather Service (NWS). Today will bring a high of 44 degrees before dipping down to around 29 tonight.
Wednesday evening could bring a mix of rain and snow to our area. Up to two inches of rain is expected, which combined with recent heavy rain could overflow areas vulnerable to stream and river flooding. Roadways susceptible to flooding are expected to become affected late Wednesday afternoon, according to the NWS.
A wind advisory is in effect starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Thursday. The wind could cause downed trees and lead to scattered power outages. Residents are urged to use precaution with Christmas decorations that could be damaged or blow away.
NJ Transit will begin offering full system cross-honoring at 1 p.m. on Wednesday continuing until the end of the service day on Thursday. This enables customers to use a ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail.
Customers are also reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines are on modified schedules due to Hurricane Sandy. Check njtransit.com for the schedule before traveling. NJ Transit plans to operate on a regular weekday schedule today and tomorrow, but depending on the impact of the storm, it may be necessary to modify service as conditions change.
Customers may experience delays or detours on bus routes in the event of extreme weather conditions and are advised to plan accordingly to anticipate disruptions to bus service.
There may be more rain on Thursday with a high of 45 and a low of 27. The high temperature for Friday looks to be around 41 degrees and a low of 26. There is a chance of of rain and snow on Saturday with a high of 42 expected during the day and a low of of 28 at night with a chance of snow.
