Goetz Sworn in Office, Cook Elected Mayor

Cook was elected mayor with a 4-0 vote.

Cranbury Township’s newly elected Township Committee member, Susan Goetz, was sworn in at Wednesday’s reorganization meeting, and David Cook was elected as the new mayor.

Goetz said she is excited and is looking forward to getting started.

“It seems like so long ago when this campaign started that it’s kind of neat to be here,” Goetz said.

Goetz was sworn in by Municipal Clerk Kathleen Cunningham, and was joined by her daughter, Allison DiNoia-Newcombe. Goetz son, Chris DiNoia, daughter-in-law, Ally DiNoia, and grandson Tyler attended the ceremony.

“I was really pleased to have the whole family here with me tonight,” Goetz said.

Cook was sworn in by state Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Mercer), and was joined by his children Olivia and Jackson. He was voted in as mayor with a 4-0 vote, and committee member Dan Mulligan was absent.

Goetz and Cook both said they want to tackle the budget right away, but also discussed other areas they plan to focus on.

Cook, who has lived in Cranbury since 1966, said he wants to work on building stronger relationships with the school board, and other boards and commissions. He also said he wants to work to keep Cranbury the way it is. The Township Committee recently passed the new master plan and now they’re working on ordinances to help interpreted it.

“We don’t want to create entities that may be perceived as destructive for Cranbury,” Cook said.

Goetz said she also wants to find something, such as a message board or online communication forum, for people who don’t have enough time to volunteer, but want to get involved with the town.

“I’m hoping as we cut back on our expenses for professionals that we can rely more on our volunteers because I think everybody in this town is eager to do that,” Goetz said.

Hightstown Council President Larry Quattrone and his wife, Judy, attended Cranbury’s reorganization meeting.
