An East Ward Street house was burglarized yesterday afternoon and jewelry was taken, according to Hightstown police.
Police were called to the house on the 100 block of East Ward Street after the homeowner found a window in the back of the house open around 2:30 p.m.
Police and the K9, Niko, searched the house and no one was found inside. Police said the window had been forced open with a tool.
Anyone with information is asked to call Hightstown police at 609-448-1234.

It is something new around here. Town used to be lovely and quiet. If you haven't bought a house here, you may want to reconsider where you are living. We are moving after living here 50+ years.

The incidents of crime have definitely increased lately...time to get out of this town. It's so sad because this used to a very nice place to live and visit. The mayor, council and police better put their heads together and put a stop to this crime, it's unacceptable!! Instead of bickering over b.s. let's stomp out this crime and return this town to the peaceful place it once was!

The officials in this town are more worried about the illegals then they are about the people who have been here for years. It is disgusting to watch what is happening to this town.

I read the article about the cars burglarized, and said "They aren't going in houses." I come home, and this article pops up. Seriously, I am afraid for my kids to walk around with their friends, because they might be attacked.

The illegals are taking over!..and the township and the government are the biggest enablers. They crowd the schools with their anchor babies that the taxpaying AMERICAN has to pay. Nobody really wants to live in town anymore..it's not worth the aggravation to have this thrown in our faces every day. I guess I'm not paying enough in taxes to house, feed and educate these criminals (yes being an illegal alien is a criminal) even is the local authorities allow it, and now they are going to start robbing our citizens on the streets and burglarizing their homes...nice..way to go h-town and USA!

Burglarized is such an ugly word. I prefer to call these events undocumented estate sales.

Ummmm....it is ugly - Nothing pretty about crime... call it what it is...a town that is getting worse - I don't even want to go downtown, I spend all my money and time in Cranbury, Robbinsville, West Windsor, even Hamilton! I am so sorry I bought here....

What the hell is going on to my little town? Seriously, it's sickening how fast it's becoming a downward slide. And Mayor Patten declared this town a "sanctuary town" at least 5 years ago, making illegals and all their problems welcome. Thank you Patten... when are you selling your house and getting the heck out? You've made this once quiet, quaint, lovely place to live a disaster area. And your successors are just as cowardly, ignoring the real issues in Hightstown.

Patten has been out for awhile....let's put the dime where it belongs...on the new leadership and crew...things have only gotten worse. When you continue to turn your head to what is happening downtown...it only moves inward and before you know it ...crime escalates and nothing is being done about it. Take a look around at how many houses here are for sale...what a shame.

Nothing was "stolen". That's such an ugly word. Things were "liberated".

The police director is right. We do not know who committed this crime and perhaps our frustration at unfortunate developments in this town have carried over to this article. There are burglaries and theft in every town.
I will add that I have spoken with several Hightstown Police Officers over the past couple years who have confirmed an increase in petty crime and in-fighting within certain communities in Hightstown, including many unreported incidents due to fear of being found without proper documentation.
The big picture here is that our small town has changed drastically over the past 5-10 years and we are frustrated and concerned about where Hightstown is headed. It is no longer the town most of us used to know and love and that is very upsetting.
