Hightstown Triathlon This Sunday
The event will begin at 7 a.m. at Hightstown Memorial Park
The adult course will be comprised of a quarter-mile swim, a 14-mile bike ride, and a 5K run.
The fourth annual Hightstown Kids Triathlon will take place at 2 p.m. on the Peddie School campus. For participants 10 years old and under, the kids’ course will be comprised of a 100-yard swim, a two-mile bike ride, and a one-mile run. For those ages 11 to 14, the course will include a 200-yard swim, a four-mile bike ride, and a two-mile run.
“Where else but Hightstown can you grab your coffee early on a fall Sunday morning, stroll down to the historic downtown, and see 200 brightly colored swim caps bobbing in the Lake?” asked Patrick Duncan, chair of the Hightstown Parks and Recreation Commission.
“It's a fun day for athletes and spectators alike. If you aren't racing, the best way to show your support is to come out, cheer (cow bells encouraged), and show everyone why Hightstown is such a special place,” he continued.
Scores of volunteers from throughout the community will show up bright and early to make the event possible, Duncan said.
He said the commission is still accepting volunteers, with a particular need for volunteers around 1:15 p.m.
Proceeds from the Triathlon support parks and recreation programs in Hightstown, and the commission will accept donations throughout the event.
The funds the Triathlon raise are vital to maintaining equipment and facilities in Hightstown’s four public parks, Duncan said.
This year’s Triathlon funded projects include a planned gazebo and stage and new play equipment in Association Park. The funds also support many community projects, including youth recreation programs, the summer Friday Night Farmers’ Market, and the Concerts in the Parks series.
None of this would be possible without our sponsors, Duncan said.
Kind Health Snacks, PNC Bank, Happy Family Organic Foods, and 4elements gym are the event’s Gold Sponsors.
The course sponsors this year include Brace Place Orthodontics as the sponsor of the swim portion for both races, The Bicycle Rack as the sponsor of the bike portion for both races, and A Reason to Smile Dentistry as the sponsor of the run course for both races.
The award sponsor for both races is A+ Athlete - Sports Medicine. The registration area is sponsored by Kettle Fusion Dynamics and the transition area by Princeton Brain and Spine Care.
The adults’ race finish line is sponsored by Tavern on the Lake and the kids’ race finish line is sponsored by Molto Bene Caffe Mercato Italiano.
The water at the finishes is donated by Shoprite.
The Hightstown Parks and Recreation Commission strives to create events that promote a healthy lifestyle for all ages, facilitate the enjoyment of our outdoor spaces and foster community spirit, Duncan said.
