Letter to the Editor: Callahan Announces Cranbury School Board Run
The former township committee candidate has three children in the school district.
To the Editor:
I am excited to have the opportunity to run for the Cranbury School Board of Education. As a member of the Board of Education, I can provide a fresh perspective, and a passion for this position.
Prior to staying home to raise my three children, I served as the former Director of Global Service Operations for the StorageApps division of Hewlett Packard. During my tenure I was responsible for the call center, level 1, 2 & 3 engineering groups. I also managed a budget totaling approximately $25 million annually, and converted the business unit from a cost center to a profit center within my first two years.
In addition to raising my family I am also actively involved in the community. I am a member of the Cranbury School PTO and have been a room parent for a number of years. I have worked with the Cranbury Education Foundation as a volunteer at the annual craft fair. I was co-president of the Cranbury Area Mother’s Club, a member of the Cranbury Arts Council and the Cranbury Swim Club. My children participate in Cranbury Recreation camps and sports, CPLL and local scouting troops. Most recently I was a candidate for Township Committee during the Fall of 2011.
I believe I am uniquely qualified to serve as a member of the Board of Education for several reasons. As a mother of three children in the school district, I understand the importance of a quality education not only today but for years to come. I have spent many hours volunteering and I am personally aware of the day-to-day workings of Cranbury School. Being a former candidate for Township Committee I have a keen insight into the township’s needs. Through that experience I am better able to identify areas for connections and partnerships that will benefit the entire community.
This is an exciting time to be involved with public education, but also a challenging one. I look forward to devoting my time and passion to meeting this challenge. I appreciate the opportunity to serve Cranbury and thank you for your support on April 17.
Sincerely,
Karen Callahan
