Letter to the Editor: Fried Encourages Buying American

Robbinsville Mayor Dave Fried is a Republican candidate to represent the 14th district in the State Assembly.

By Dave Fried, Robbinsville mayor and Republican candidate for State Assembly in the 14th Legislative District

This Memorial Day, I had the honor of marching in the Hamilton Memorial Day Parade. One discussion I had with a group of veterans reminded me that not long ago, products we purchased were marked with an American Flag and a familiar slogan: “Made in the U.S.A.” Growing up, my father always told me to look for that slogan, because, “When you buy American, you keep your neighbors working.”

Every year, it becomes more difficult to find products made in our country. China’s power grows while our economy weakens, and our politicians offer no solutions.

I was pleased to see that Assemblyman Craig Coughlin (D-Woodbridge) introduced a resolution in the Legislature that would encourage New Jerseyans to buy American in order to stimulate our economy and create jobs.

I hope that before the Legislature goes on vacation, they pass this resolution and send a message that New Jersey stands behind American workers. Regardless of political party or ideology, we must all work together to get our economy moving again.

In a non partisan defense of Mayor Fried, Mercedes has been manufacturing most of their big SUV's in Alabama since 1997.

"Buy American."

Neat suggestion...of course since we became a "service economy" 30 years ago, and most manufacturing jobs disappeared, that's sort of a neat trick.

I remembered thinking back then that if times got tough, you couldn't "eat" a service. People said I was being a Luddite...behind the times. Finding a product that is actually made in the US is almost impossible. Even our food supply is increasingly imported. But if you can find something that is American made, by all means, go for it.

Saying to buy American is easier said than done. The Public Sector unions, Barack Hussein Obama, Nancy Pelosi & the rest of the Democrat liberals are driving businesses offshore & taking our jobs with them. Think about it. The cost of property & corporate taxes; along with the trial lawyers being able to sue every business; are not helpful. These anti-corporate policies are killing jobs in the U.S. If u are a private sector employee; like most of us are, and you’re supporting the Public Sector unions and other parasites calling for higher taxes, you really need to re-think your position.

The trend you are speaking about has been going on for about a decade.

First, we became a service economy...then SURPRISE! They moved the "service" jobs to Bangladesh.
Thanks again Mr. Bush. What was that expression? Oh yes..."Mission Accomplished!"
