Living in Central New Jersey
Columnist Lauren Kim will share her insights on being a parent and a homeowner.
As a Highstown mom of two and as a homeowner, I am always on the lookout for new family activities/places to go in the East Windsor/Hightstown area. I also like to keep informed about local school and community events. And, as an avowed HGTV/home improvement junkie, I'm constantly searching for ways to spruce up and decorate my home—especially improvements that can stand up to wear and tear. (My kids are both in elementary school.)
Lots of times, the best things I've come across have been through word of mouth. Just about a month ago, for instance, I found out from a friend about a great East Windsor playground, Woods Road Community Park. The play area—which is 3 miles from my home—has fun equipment for kids to climb on, a basketball court and a walking path (within sight of the play equipment) that's great for moms. But, it took me 7 years of living in Hightstown to find it! (Despite the fact that my family has been to a handful of parks in Hightstown, East Windsor, Cranbury, etc.) And sometimes, it's the home improvement tips that are picked up from friends and neighbors—like how and where to best store all those toys—that are the most useful.
In this column, I'd like to share some of my experiences and insights as a parent and as a homeowner—everything from low-cost home improvements with big impact, to great local events for families, to parenting hints and tips. If there's anything in particular you'd like to read about, I'd love to hear from you.
