"We now have power in five of our six schools. However, some of the western parts of East Windsor are still without power and this includes the Melvin H. Kreps School. The utility companies are working diligently to repair the problem but I am unable to make a decision related to Monday until I know whether or not we will have power. Once power is restored, I will send out another School Messenger alert. Regardless of our status, if a decision is not made prior, I will contact everyone Sunday afternoon with an update on Monday’s status.
"As most people have now heard, the NJEA has canceled the annual teacher convention originally scheduled for next Thursday and Friday. Yesterday, I communicated with many of our Board of Education members as well as the presidents of our two local Associations. Everyone agrees with me that school should be in session next Thursday and Friday. Assuming that we have power restored in all schools, we will have school next Thursday and Friday to make up for two of the days we lost this week. I realize that this may cause some hardships for people who have scheduled trips during this time. We will work with all staff that can provide documentation of having non-refundable reservations that were made prior to the storm. Likewise, we will not penalize students who have scheduled out of town trips.
"Also, as a sign of returning to normalcy, the SAT test scheduled to be held at Hightstown High School tomorrow will be held. Pre-registered students should report to the high school and follow the regular test administration schedule.
"I remain hopeful that every resident and staff member has power restored soon. Please continue to stay safe."

I live in Windsor Mill on Old Trenton and One Mile Rd. Since the storm, I have not seen any trucks/movement to get power going for any of the condo associations in the area. These are concentrations of families not being addressed. Really poor form, East Windsor.

I live off one mile road...about 4 poles are down and I haven't seen one utility truck in the area. You are right, why are they concerned about busineses??? Residents should be first priority...this is ridiculous. It's very cold...one mile road needs to be made a priority due to the seve

Still no power on One Mile Road. No trucks yet, but if you drive by the downed utility poles, someone has dropped off the replacement poles. They are on the ground waiting to be put up. I'm cold but I'm beginning to have hope. Too bad the libraries did not open. Hickory Corner had power but the County would not let it open. The crowds around the exterior using the 4 electrical outlets with multiple power cords was something to see. I'm not sure how safe it was, with 15-20 items being charged at each outlet at the same time, but people are desperate!

JCP&L has offered nothing more than the canned response of "power will be restored in 7 to ten days" for days now. While it's understandable that it will take time to recover from this catastrophe, their meaningless statements are appalling. They, like any public business or entity, should be held accountable for their lack of transparency. Transparency contributes to determining just how well or not they are meeting their obligations. It's inexcusable that EW is not provided with better updated information by this monopoly. They obviously have a field management team that manages their service crews and plans accordingly. THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO SHARE THESE PLANS IN AS FAR AS HOW IT RELATES TO THE PROGRESS OF BRINGING AREAS BACK ONLINE. Delivering canned messages highlights their complacency, laziness, and lack of accountability. When utility services cannot be provided due to circumstances, updated information should not be kept secret.

MH
12:03 am on Sunday, November 4, 2012
The Mayor can't fix the power, so what is she supposed to do. If you subscribe to the EW Alerts you can get updated news on what's going on. You'll also read about the Mayor's frustration with JCPL. In the meantime, the garbage has been picked up, the mail is being delivered, the chippers and leaf vacuum trucks are out and about, so EW services have been pretty darn good all week. JCPL is not a municipal utility, so there's not much the Mayor can do.

The lack of information from East Windsor officials and JCPL is both disappointing and maddening. All we want is info. We understand it may not be good news but shame on you for not sharing. We need to make decisions: stay. Go. Go to a hotel. Get a generator. Decisions that would be helped by honest answers. No action on Conover road. No action on Old York. Where is it on the list? Just tell us so we can plan.

I live in apartments on one mile rd... As of this morning, same status... New poles up but no one working there putting up the boxes. Wish I at least saw some bodies at work there so I could have some hope...

I didn't see any new poles up - looks the same as it did Tuesday morning post-hurricane - maybe we can all go to Wendy's since they seemed to have fixed the one there yesterday afternoon.

Our area is going on the 6th night without power. SO many people with small children. Glad target was open so we could do a little shopping for necessities. I know a lot of people have it much worse but this is really an unacceptable response.

The town claims to be doing everything it can. Why have they not opened the schools that have power so families can keep warm and charge electronic devices? How about opening up the municipal building for people to charge their phones? Water and ice is a joke at this point. We need heat and electricity. Towns like Princeton have demonstrated true leadership and helped their residents. How about not blaming JCP&L--a company that was somehow able to restore most of Robbinsville?
Old York Rd won't be fixed until poles arrive according to one of guys taking turns sitting in the pick up truck and there is live electricity running through those wires so the homes that have power can maintain it. Would be nice if those poles showed up some time soon. This is ridiculous.

There's are a couple of jcpl guys just sitting in thir truck at old York road 'guarding' the place. They have no idea when work is starting there. Hightstown now only has 80 people out where as EW still has 4500 out. What aFUP

Any progress on Dutch Neck and Drew Ln? We are grasping for straws at this point, but it seems that fixing that would restore power to most people in our area. Also, has the tree on Jeffrey Lane been removed?

In typical JCP&L fashion, they are doing the dumb thing. They have put up new above-ground power lines along the Rte. 33 construction area instead of putting the power lines below ground. Wonderful to have a monopoly. Is there any reason that in the most advanced country in the world, our utilities use the same technology as Bangladesh ? Individual complaints to JCP&L mean nothing, and the politicians don't have the --------- to take on the utilities. Would be nice if all the "mayors" got together and demanded that the utilities put things underground. Don't hold your breath.

Agree, EW mayor is useless. Not updating or providing correct information. Why work has not started on Conover Road and Rt. 539 by Peddie Golf Course. We are still without power in Centex homes. We pay very very high property tax and get this kind of service? Tonight will be 6th COLD night !!!

I saw utility workers on Princeton-Hightstown road by Target. Probably these stores will get power back soon, don't know about the houses and complexes around the area. Old Trenton road, no power up to Mercer College. Situation doesn't improve at ALL.

I want to thank all you bloggers for keeping me informed of the situation on One Mile Road where my sister is living. I am up in Canada so I am finding this site very informative because all of you care to communicate. Although, I have not been able to personally speak to my sister, I know from chatting to my nephew on FB that she is at least okay and is staying in the house and does not want to go to her son who now has power. From this Patch, I probably know more about her situation than she does so thank you all for the news!! I know that the minute she has power I will hear from the family through phone or Skype or Email.

The frustration of living without power for nearly a week is unbearable, for sure. However, I am grateful that my house is still standing, the trees that came down on my street have damaged sheds, fences, and cars, but no homes were destroyed and no lives lost. For this, I am grateful. I am surprised that there are still so many power lines down in the area, but I have seen utility company trucks all over town. If you have taken a walk around town and seen the amount of damage done, you might realize what is taking so long. I don't understand why people are blaming the mayor; she does not control the electric companies. What she does control is our municipal workers, and I must say that I am impressed with their work. Trucks were out by 7AM on Tuesday morning already removing downed trees and clearing roads. They are cutting trees that are blocking roadways, and removing brush, leaves, etc. from curbsides. They cannot touch the power lines or any of the trees affected by them, but the township workers are doing a fantastic job of moving toward getting our roads passable and our property safe. Thanks to all!

I just spoke with a representative , I told her everywhere around me from the new developments which have electricity and 10 people living in them to the wal mart developments seem to have electricity except my area ( centex). She said due to flooding and the damage it may take until Wednesday . I told her I understood if there was flooding in this area or real damage that would have been a good excuse but we've had good weather after sandy and there should be no excuse as to why a small amount of people ( mainly centex) have no electricity. She said the scope of damage was much larger then just the poles by Conover and by peddle ( which is BS) ... So the conclusion is they have excuses for everything you can tell them you have an infant and they'll say they've informed your infant of the severity of the damage and have hired dummies to sit in trucks to give false hope.

No - but there is a new homemade sign on one of the utility poles near the back entrance to McGraw Hill. It says "JCP&L We're Cold!" I don't think residents in that area of town will be up and running before Thursday. I hope to be proven wrong. Remember here are the people with the real power: County Executive Brian Hughes bhughes@mercercounty.org and Andrew A, Mair, County Administrator amair@mercercounty.org. Send them emails!

No repair trucks that I have seen on One Mile Rd today, Sunday the 4th. I am going to live at a relatives house until this is all over. Keep raising those property taxes while home prices drop, and get nothing back for it when it counts local government!!

I looked at jcpl's progress report- they have over 11,000 customers on EW- after Sandy over 8,000 were without power! As of yesterday still over 4,000 out! They said their progress yesterday was 0% & today will only be 12% restoration! That means still over 3,000 without power! Dutch Neck Rd residents still without power! The reason we r blaming the Mayor is because she should be calling for extra help! See if they could get help from other areas (like De) that are reporting no power issues ! Also how about providing generators to those without & to those that did purchase them a tax credit! We pay enough in taxes - time to give back to the residents! I have gone to the Givernor's FB page & wrote him & also some news media- I agree we are thankful to have a home but this is just due to poor management from jcpl & a week without power us unacceptable!

No - residences on One Mile Road have a few more days. Look at page 2 of the following website:
http://www.state.nj.us/nj/home/features/spotlight/20121103_JCP&L.pdf
It shows 23% of East Windsor by tomorrow night, November 5th. I was told at the end of last week that One Mile Road area would not be up until Nov. 8-9th. I didn't believe it then, but I do now.

The way NY governor Cuomo summed up his situation applies to NJ:
"The utility system we have was designed for a different time and for a different place," Cuomo told a news conference. "It is a 1950s system. ... They have failed the consumers. The management has failed the consumers."
"I believe the system is archaic and obsolete in many ways. They are basically one of the last monopolies. ...," Cuomo said on Thursday. "If you are unhappy with the utility company, who do you fire? Who runs it? Who owns it? Where do you get them?"
"Part of this is the system. But with LIPA, I also believe part of it is the management, which has been unacceptable. They failed. They have failed the consumers. It is that simple"
There have been posts in other threads regarding whom you can email and/or call to make sure those with the power to pressure the utilities to perform satisfactorily do so. If your elected officials don't hear from you, they'll simply assume you're happy with your utilities' emergency response. Seize the opportunity to be heard; others will join you if you spread the word. Also tell friends and family about the Patch websites.
