Man Charged After Nearly Head On Route 33 Crash

The collision sent four to the hospital.

Police say a 53-year-old Colts Neck man was intoxicated when he slammed into another car while driving the wrong way on Route 33 near Twin Rivers Saturday night.

Bruno Savo was driving westbound in the eastbound lane on Route 33 when he collided nearly head on with another vehicle carrying three people around 8 p.m., East Windsor police said.

He had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, and was transported to CentraState Hospital for a laceration on his head, police said.

The three people in the other vehicle were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The driver had hip pain, the front passenger had leg and facial injuries and the rear passenger had abdominal and clavicle injuries, police said.

Savo was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving and improper operation on a divided highway.

Hey Fran, I am always in a hurry and get anxious when a slow poke gets in front of me. What this article is about is something different, someone so shnockered that they got on this highway and drove the WRONG WAY and caused injury.. Simple as that. Very different than someone who is not capable of using "self check out" and the person in back getting irritated. Totally off topic.

I can't believe how foolish your statements are! "whether he was drunk" you say - did you read the article? Going west in an eastbound lane? What does this have to do about speeding? He was drunk, driving in the wrong direction! How about "wake up and smell the roses!!!!!!!!!!!

To Frances - incidental??? The guy was driving intoxicated and almost took three lives. If someone you love dies in accident because of a drunk driver, you let me know if its incidental...you pinhead!

I know the front passenger. Its god grace that she and her friends survived. All these young people and their family members lifes are brought to a painful long road to recovery. I am not sure how intoxicated people think of driving. I have seen courts allowing such people to plead guilty and get away with almost no sentence, and allowing them to keep their license. Law needs to make a difference here.
