Police: Intruder Found Sleeping in Kitchen, Charged in Three Burglaries

Some of the stolen items included a six-pack of beer, cell phones and a wallet.

A man who broke into a Winchester Drive house early Saturday morning and fell asleep in the kitchen was charged in three East Windsor burglaries, police said.

The homeowner heard glass break, and when he went into his kitchen, found the intruder sleeping, police said.

Hamilton resident Carlos Humberto Miranda, 29, was found by police hiding in bushes outside the house with items, including cell phones, laptop, wallet, a credit card and a six-pack of beer, that connected him to two other burglaries in the area, police said.

The other two burglarized houses were on Allison Drive and Winchester Drive, police said.

Miranda was charged with three counts each of burglary, theft and trespassing, and released on his own recognizance.

Police did not respond to a request for additional information.

Good thing Carlos Humberto took a siesta. Results of a criminal in the house could have been much, much worse. I am sure Carlos Humberto and other criminals give thanks to Gov. Christie for his recent action to limit gun ownership in NJ. The former "great prosecutor" is surrounded by armed security, but wants the average citizen to remain unarmed. NJ remains on the leading edge of all states in denying it's citizens their second amendment rights thanks to our habit of electing weasels to public office. But still, had Carlos Humberto invaded some other East Windsor homes, his siesta would have been permanent.

I'm confused...the homeowner heard glass break, and in the time it took the homeowner to get to the kitchen Humberto fell asleep? Then I guess the homeowner called police and in the time it took police to get there Humberto only made it to the bushes outside the house he was just burglarizing? There seem to be some details missing in the story. What are the chances that Humberto is driving a car with Maryland license plates?

and he was released because,,,,,,,,, ???

Les,
I wondered about that also. I suspect that Humberto may, just may. have been under the influence of some controlled substance(s) at the time, and just had to take a break.
The article says he is a Hamilton resident, so he is probably driving an uninsured car with Jersey plates and not an uninsured car with Maryland plates.

As an EW homeowner who also had his house broken into last year, I too would like to know why he was released so quickly. On his own recognizance yet!

Perhaps it was his fresh haircut and clean sweatshirt, or he complained of profiling.

MH,
Just the way we do things around here.

It's a confusing article that leaves questions unanswered. Good to know others had the same questions.

What did I miss? Why the reference to Maryland license plates?

Illegals can get drivers licenses in Maryland.

We are going to shut comments down on this story. Nowhere in the story does it say what Miranda's immigration status might be and the direction the debate has taken is unacceptible.

I'm done with the Patch. When a raging lib like Kalet is in charge, it is pointless to take part. A typical liberal tactic used by Hitler and Stalin. Shut down discourse that does not fit your agenda.

Really, shut it down. The story does not make sense. He was found sleeping on the floor and then in the next sentence he was found in the bushes. What is with that. Did the homeowner wake him up and he ran outside??? I like the patch but this article asks for silly comments since it does not make sense. And, he was a wanted criminal and they let him go??

Two points before we close this:
1. I agree that we should have had a more complete timeline on the arrest, but this is all the information released by the Hightstown police.
2. We are closing this debate not because of any political preference, but because Miranda's immigration status was not detailed in the story and the comments are assuming that he is here illegally because he has a Spanish surname. If you wish to continue discussing the question of undocumented/illegal immigrants obtaining driver's licenses, please go here and post your comments and vote in our poll.

That should have read East Windsor police.
