Plainsboro native Rebecca Soni set a world record for the 200-meter breaststroke, and will compete Thursday in the finals for another Olympic medal.
During the semifinals, Soni beat the former record-holder with a time of 2:20:00. Canada's Annamay Pierse set the former record in 2009 with a time of 2:20.12, according to a report on the Huffington Post.
On Monday Soni snagged her first medal from the London Olympics, silver in the 100-meter breaststroke. She was beat out by Lithuania’s 15-year-old Ruta Meilutyte, who took the gold.
Born in Freehold and later moved to Plainsboro, Soni graduated West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North in 2005 and now calls Manhattan Beach, Ca. home, according to her website. She took home a gold and two silver medals at the Beijing Olympics.
