The East Windsor Fire Co. #2 hosted an afternoon Saturday of fire safety training, career information, firehouse tour, trucks rides and group discussion while enjoying pizza and snacks.

With the young people of Anchor House, ranging in age from 16 to 21, the firefighters got a chance to share stories, pass along volunteer information and tips and discuss the challenges and rewards of fighting fires.

Firefighter Ben Thornton, who is also the program coordinator of the Transitional Living Program and Supportive Housing Program of Anchor House in Trenton, coordinated this outstanding community outreach program.

Anchor House is a multi-service agency for runaway, homeless, abused and at-risk young people (up to 21 years of age) and their families and has been at work for 30 years, according to its website. 

Later in the summer, Thornton will be participating in the Ride for Runaways, an annual, 7-day, 500-mile charity bicycle ride that supports Anchor House. The next ride will take place on July 9, going from Jamestown, N.Y. to Trenton. If you would like to show your support to Anchor House and Firefighter Ben Thornton, you can do so online.
