Tiger's Deli in East Windsor

Tiger's Deli in East Windsor closing and several people have expressed their disappointment of this news to Patch.

A woman who identified herself as a manager said the deli is shutting its doors on Jan. 31, and they will be retiring. A large sign stating they're closing is displayed in the storefront, also announcing everything is for sale.

Are you going to miss Tiger's Deli? What was your favorite thing to order? What will your new lunch spot be? Share your memories of the deli in the comments below.

After almost 40 years in the East Windsor community, that's the best article you could post! Two minutes more and you would have found out that the manager is Claudia. Her parents (Mr. and Mrs. Tiger) are Ralph and Doris. Yes we are going to miss Tigers. Their salads, sandwiches and specials were all great. For many of us it was the East Windsor version of "Cheers". They knew the names of the regulars and what they wanted to order. Yes - they will be missed!

Mary - I am stopping in to talk tomorrow, but they weren't available to speak more on the phone today and I wanted to get the news out as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing your memories.

It's sad to see them go. They made the best salads. What is going to be left at the strip mall now? Super Fresh, Blockbuster, and the gym are all gone already?

What sad news! They were always a great place to stop for a quick bite. They also had a great selection of chips and drinks (or at least they did a while ago).

no more Tiger's potato salad???? I never thought anyone could make potato salad that tasted like my mom's.....but they did! This is sad news, indeed, for our community, but I wish the family well. It always felt 'hometown' whenever you went in there. Best wishes to all the Tigers...... you will be missed by many.

I was told the landlord raised the rent, granted that sounds crazy, but could it be true? Perhaps Ashley could investigate. I wonder if the landlord is at the same time poor mouthing to EWT about the value of their property going down due to vacancies and applying for a tax appeal.

We will miss the friendly smiles, warm welcome and delicious food!

Potato salad (egg and plain), health salad, cole slaw...too many to name

Wonderful sandwiches also...but mostly we will miss Claudia, Ralph and Doris.

I am so disappointed. I've ordered their salads for years for any parties I have had. Is there any chance we might we able to get their recipe for potato salad, cole slaw and macaroni salad.

Jeannie - I asked the Tiger's if they would share their potato salad recipe and they said this is what they would share: http://eastwindsor.patch.com/articles/east-windsor-tigers-deli-business-will-close-doors#photo-8981467

I had the great experiance of working for Doris & Ralph back in the 70's at all 3 of their locations! Twin Rivers, Rossmoor & where Rita's is now. They were an absolute pleasure to work for plus, I had the opportunity of watching their 3 girls growing up!! I loved working for them & it is going to be sad to see them close!! What a shame to see another great icon close!!

Ralph Tiger once showed me a cane he used, that used to belong to Kathryn Dennis' father, George Dennis, once the Borough Clerk of Hightstown. As the area has expanded greatly these ties to an earlier era are getting more rare. My wife and I once ate at the Tiger Inn (now gone too). Best wishes for a happy retirement!

What a nice piece of info - George Dennis is my great grandfather.

I met my husband at Tiger's in May of 1968! He was a carrier for the Hightstown Post Office and I worked at McGraw-Hill. We were married Sept 1969 and moved to Florida in 1978. He passed away in 2005, but we often mentioned the good memories of Tiger's Deli.... Enjoy your retirement, Ralph and Doris!
