Decorating Downtown Hightstown for the Holidays

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As the holidays are fast approaching, Downtown Hightstown, Inc. is hosting our 5th Annual Downtown Holiday Window and Storefront Decorating Contest!

Like last year, we’ve recruited teams of Hightstown High School and Peddie School art students to paint a selection of windows of downtown businesses with holiday themes.

This approach engages students and their families in our downtown business district, generates positive publicity for the town, and promotes a festive holiday spirit while promoting art and community participation. It also fosters the small-town feeling we strive to recreate; some of you might remember similar contests from your own childhood. This year’s decorating theme is “Snowflakes.”

The contest schedule is as follows:

From Saturday, Dec. 8 at noon to Thursday, Dec. 13 at noon, vote for your favorite decorated window at www.DowntownHightstown.org.

Then, on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., bundle up the kids and meet us at the “Fountain at the Point” in the downtown to find out the contest winner! Enjoy live holiday music, horse-drawn carriage rides ($3 per person minimum donation requested), hot cocoa, a FREE raffle, and a special visit from Santa.

6 p.m. – horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday music, hot cocoa and treats.

6:30 p.m. – live musical performance by local guitar instructor Dan Trent and students.

7 p.m. – Santa arrives for pictures with the kids.

7:30 p.m. – live musical performance.

8 p.m. – Decorating contest and raffle winners are announced.

9 p.m. – last carriage ride departs.

Local government officials and school administrators will join us for the festivities.  Student who painted the top three windows will receive gift certificates to an art supply store to further their artistic talents. We hope to see you on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.!

Warm Regards,

The Downtown Hightstown, Inc. Team
