McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union’s (McGraw-Hill FCU) latest seminar on Wednesday, Dec. 19, “The Financial Role Model in You: Preparing Your Children for Economic Success,” will provide attendees with insight for raising financially responsible children to help them live a financially sound adulthood.
According to The University of Arizona and National Endowment for Financial Education, parents exert the most influence over their children when it comes to developing positive financial attitudes and behaviors.
The seminar is scheduled from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the credit union’s headquarters — 120 Windsor Center Drive, East Windsor, N.J. It includes information on raising:
Savvy Savers — tips for teaching children the importance of developing a spending plan and how it helps them achieve their goals
Smart Decision Makers — strategies for differentiating “wants” and “needs” to avoid debt, make smart spending choices, and use credit cards wisely
Little Warren Buffetts — methods for teaching children to invest in their future with powerful savings vehicles such as government bonds and insured savings accounts
Speakers include Withum, Smith, and Brown CPAs Ed Mendlowitz and Julia Van Saun. A successful accountant and editor with over 20 years experience, Mendlowitz has authored 19 books and serves as contributing editor to Practitioners Publishing Company’s 706/709 Deskbook, Corporate Controller’s Manual, AICPA MAP Handbook, and Wiley’s Handbook of Budgeting. Van Saun has over four years experience in public accounting and belongs to The New Jersey Institute’s Public Accountants Financial Literacy Committee.
The Dec. 19 seminar is presented without charge and includes sandwiches, snacks, beverages, free parking, and sample financial literacy materials. Educators earn professional development credits toward 9.2 Financial Literacy Standards. Students who attend will receive a $15 iTunes gift card.
