Weekend Guide: Fall Festivals

Apple picking, farmers market among the events.

A will be held Sunday at Lee Turkey Farm from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. There is a cost for the apple picking.

The apple picking is set to coincide with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. “Apples are a symbol of the holiday, and we thought it would be a nice family event to pick apples,” said Bassie Madoff, program director at the  in East Windsor, who is hosting the event.

As a round fruit, the apple is a symbol of the new year “from beginning to end, full circle,” Madoff said.

There will be holiday storytelling for children, and a craft for kids to make their own shofars, or holiday horns, Madoff said. There will be a free raffle of Israeli “goodies,” Madoff said, and gourmet honey tasting.

  • There will be a Farmers Market by the lake in at 100 North Main Street from 4 to 8 p.m. Come and shop for fresh goods and produce, listen to acoustic vocal music by Backdoor Band and paddle boat on Peddie Lake.

Saturday

  • AFEW is holding a Pet Adoption Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at . 
  • A Community Supper is being held at  from 4:30 to 6 p.m. All are welcome to enjoy the hot meal.

Sunday

  • will be held at Hightstown High School. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and the run and walk starts at 10 a.m. The cost is $5 for students and $20 for other entries. All proceeds go to Hightstown After-Prom Committee and event will help fund the high school’s after prom party.
  • The will hold a Civil War Exhibit from 1-4 p.m. The exhibit includes local photos, letters, written accounts and artifacts from the war. Admission is free, and donations are accepted.
