Ready to Get Back to School?

Resources for parents prepping for September.

Drawn in by circulars advertising low prices for back-to-school shopping, I recently purchased back-to-school items for my two daughters. On my list were composition books for 40 cents and discounted glue sticks from Target.

The items are among the supplies that my daughters will need when they return to elementary school this fall.

For parents looking to prep for the upcoming school year, stores like Target have school district-suggested shopping lists on hand for their customers in the stores’ school supply sections.

Parents of East Windsor elementary and middle-school students can download lists of supplies the schools expect students to have in the fall at the East Windsor Regional Schools website.

Parents looking to sync their family calendars with the school district’s calendar can check out the 2010-2011 school-year calendar at eastwindsorregionalschools.com. (Especially since East Windsor schools haven’t sent out information about the upcoming school year yet.)

According to the calendar, the first day of school for East Windsor this fall is Tuesday, Sept. 6. FYI: Parents might want to be on the lookout for the first long weekend  kids have off from school this upcoming fall: Sept. 29-Oct. 2.

Although it’s only the beginning of August, now is a great time to shop for students off to college this fall. Area stores (like Walmart and Target) already have been advertising sales on dorm room needs like sheets and comforter sets, futons, desks and bookcases. There have also been sales on small electronics (like iPods and TVs) and appliances (like mini refrigerators and microwaves). Even parents who don’t have kids going off to college this fall might want to take a look at those sales —with this season’s lower prices, now might be the time to update a teen’s room or basement recreation room.
