Weekend Guide: Charity Auction,Triathlons and Town-Wide Garage Sale

A chili cookoff and a fall fest are also among the events.

A will be one of the top local events in an activity-filled weekend. The auction, to be held by the nonprofit John Paul Geijer Foundation, will be at the Hightstown Firehouse from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Richard Horner, a co-founder of the charity, said the organization was founded after the death of his father-in-law from prostrate cancer. Proceeds from the charity are used to fund prostate cancer awareness.

The auction will include a full buffet dinner and guests can bid on a variety of donated items, including hopper passes for Walt Disney World, autographed footballs from the Jets, autographed pucks from the Flyers and the Devils, gift certificates to restaurants including Red Lobster and Chevys, hotel stays in Philadelphia and Atlantic City, and passes to the Please Touch Museum and Medieval Times.

There will be also a tricky tray, where guests can buy sheets of tickets to be pulled for a variety of gifts.

“We don’t pay for any of the items that we have for the auction. We have been very lucky to get the donations that we have,” Horner said.

Some of the buffet dishes include sausage and peppers, chicken marsala and penne in vodka sauce.

Friday, Sept. 22:

  • There will be a by the lake in  from 4 to 8 p.m. Come and shop for fresh goods and paddle boat on Peddie Lake.
  • Karen Callahan, who is running for the Cranbury Township Committee, will host a at the  from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person.

Saturday, Sept. 23:

  • There will be a in Hightstown from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The headquarters for the event will be at the Hightstown-Apollo Lodge #41. At the lodge there will be information lists, maps, food and beverages throughout the day. Check out the Hightstown Borough’s website for a list of participating addresses.
  • The will host a from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be crafts, a food court, baked goods and resale sale.
  • A for ages seven to 13 will be held in at at 3:30 p.m. 
  • There will be an AFEW Pet Adoption Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be many dogs and cats up for adoption.

Sunday, Sept. 24:

  • will kick off at 7 a.m. at . Come out and compete, or watch the competitors in this fun-filled event.
  • The will hold a from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibit includes local photos, letters and written accounts of the war as well as artifacts from the war. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted.
