Near Enemy Film Festival to Debut in New Brunswick
The festival will feature an assortment of independently produced choreographed fight and martial arts films.
A new film festival will have its debut in New Brunswick on Sept. 1, featuring an assortment of independent martial arts films from the U.S. and Canada.
The Near Enemy Film Festival will showcase about seven short films, all in the theme of martials arts or choreographed fight scenes. All films will be showcased at the George Street Playhouse, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
"I just wanted to...create my own film festival and provide a platform for local independent film makers and martial artists who didn’t have a place to (screen) their fine films," said organizer Cara Parmigiani, of the Morristown-based company Near Enemy Creative.

Parmigiani said the films will be judged by a panel of critics from Near Enemy Creative, and a "Best in Show" award will be given to the winner.
Parmigiani said both she and her festival co-organizer are Rutgers University graduates.

"I spend a lot of time on the banks (and am) happy to be back," she said.
Parmigiani said the festival is anticipated to be held in 2013 as well, and plans are to expand it with more films.
Tickets for the Near Enemy Film Festival are $15.
