Patch Picks: Five Local Librarian’s Choices for Kids and Adults

Look to the local library for recommendations on your next literary escape.

The winter is waning and spring is but a few weeks away – what better time to check into your local library and check out a popular page-turner? 

At the Hickory Corner Branch Library, Senior Librarian Yolande Zealy recommends the following:

-       “Unbroken,” by Laura Hillenbrand. The World War II story of a young lieutenants’ voyage has it all: survival, resilience and redemption.

-       “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” by Stieg Larsson. The novel is the third and final installment of the Swedish author’s international bestselling trio.

-       “Room,” by Emma Donoghue. This fictional tale describes the life of Jack, a five-year-old boy who has lived his entire existence in within the confines of a single room.

-       “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother,” by Amy Chua. Chua explains the secret behind the parenting styles of a Chinese-American mother.

 

Over in Hightstown, Branch Librarian Linda Cholewiak reported that these titles have recently been flying off the shelves:

-       “My Many Colored Days,” by Dr. Seuss. Take a closer look at how the rhythmic author uses colors to assign them to different emotions.

-       “Water for Elephants,” by Sara Gruen. This 1930s love story centers on the antics of a traveling circus.

-       “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” by Stieg Larsson. Also listed as a Hickory Corner Branch hot pick, the novel is the third and final installment of the Swedish author’s international bestselling trio.

-       “Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins. In this young-adult fictional tale, a group of youngsters is required to fight on another to the death on television.

-       “Resumes That Knock ‘Em Dead.” by Martin Yate. Learn how to maximize your chances of landing an interview with this guide.
