New Liquor Store Coming to East Windsor

The 14-store chain looks to expand with Route 130 location.

A new liquor store will be opening in East Windsor this fall, in the former Randall’s Furniture location on Route 130.

Owners of Bottle King hope to open the doors in September, but a date has not yet been set, according to Andreas Kertesz, a company representative.

The business will sell wine, liquor, beer and dry goods, including chips and snack food, but will not carry refrigerated food, Kertesz said.

Bottle King has 14 other New Jersey locations, mainly in the northern part of the state, and the company wanted to expand to the East Windsor-area, Kertesz said.

“It’s a market we wanted to get into. It seems like a very up and coming area and we wanted to come down a bit further south,” he said.

Kertesz said the company plans to hire local employees and will advertise positions at a later date.

“We’re excited about opening,” he said.

Hedy's is now officially opened as Joe Canal's. I have yet to go inside, but I am interested in seeing the prices inside. We needed something discounted around here. Everything else in East Windsor is so expensive

It is great to see new business in EWindsor but my concern is the location in regards to traffic on this side of highway and the parking. Also, do we really need another liquor store in area? There are already 2 in the surronding location. I would of liked some other retail store for more options to shop.

Carduner's and the Liquor store in the Shop Rite Shpping Center wll have trouble competing with Joe Canal and Bottle King.

Competition is good, maybe the stores will have to try harder for our business in terms of price, selection and cleanliness. As for your traffic concern, I agree that drivers need to stay alert in that area, especially for left laners making last minute kamikaze dives into Dunkin Donutz.

Just a post script ... Bet EWindsor PD will have some extra work now with all the new beverage stores available. Just saying.

Hedy will not be so discounted...they are just USING the Joe Canal name - they pay for the right. They will more than likely not be able to go as low as Joe Canal..I would be surprised if they do. Just what we need...Bottle King....yep ...just what we need!

From what I have see from Joe Canals on Rt 1 and Rt 73, they are all priced the same, and discounted. Joe Canal is not a franachise so Hedy's is gone, not just buying the rights to the name.

With the median E.W. police salary being in the $90,000 range...

Yes, competition is good. This will probably put pressure on the taxi cabs selling liquor out of their trunks to lower prices.

We need more Community Center no liquor store
Great Potential July 11, 2012 at 06:18 PM
What would the Community Center be used for? So you & your group could protest taxi ordinances and call people racists. I'm not sure which community you want a center for. Give it a break already!

I think Mr. Thores needs to underrstand that the current liqour stores are not reasonable and those of us who do shop at these stores would like to see a cleaner and more attractive store. It will certainly be nice to see an improvement over the currernt stores

I just went to the "new" Joe Canal's today. Anyone expecting a shopping experience similar to the Joe Canal's on Rt 1 in Lawrenceville will be bitterly disappointed. It is the same dump it always was with the same uneducated people working there. Same dusty bottles of mass market wine and jumbled beer selection in the coolers. Boo.

Prices have not gone down.

Great Potential, based on your response to Jorge's comment, it's obvious you have some deep issues. I suggest you try harder to live up to your screenname.

With all the DUI's handed out in this town and the way people drive around here I don't think another liqour store is the answer, whether you're looking for a discount or not. I think 4 liquor stores within a 2 mile radius is way too much!! Do you think someone from another town is going to drive to East Windsor just because we have Bottle King?? Don't fool yourself. Shame on whoever made this decision, sure we'll see at the ribbon cutting ceromony. Dislike!!

Well I for one think it's a smart idea! The economy sucks and I know people who need jobs. My sister for one! I do know a kid who worked for BottleKing while he was in college in New Jersey. Supposedly the pay is pretty good and they even get insurance. As for the traffic, East Windsor has made the decision to allow another chain store in town. They do it knowing the pros and cons and I am guessing they think BottleKing will be a pro! Lastly if you think that people do not come from other towns to go to a chain store like BottleKing, Home Depot, bed bath beyond etc. then you are silly. of course they do. Not only do they have the best prices because of the quantity they sell, but you will save gas from driving to the next town to one of the stores rather than going from store to store to store to store to find all of the things that you would find under one mass roof!

Just saying… Enough bitterness here and good luck to all the new stores small and big coming to East Windsor. Give us jobs pay your taxes and it's a win-win situation for all!!!!!!
whatever41 July 18, 2012 at 04:06 PM
I'm with you Lisa, there was no problem getting in and out of the previous furniture store. Makes my trips shorter too.
