Between the empty Super Fresh/Other Empty Stores & closed Genardi's I would like to see:
- Bottom Dollar - Trader Joe's - Bone Fish Grill Restaurant - Fresh Seafood Market.

In the Shady Rest (sort of)Retirement Community, I would like to see a larger Wawa with a Gas Station.

Over Billy's Inn is in Monroe, but that would definitely work. The reason why the owners of the strip mall raise everyone's rent is to cover for the stores in that strip mall which have left. It's the same thing with our property taxes. We have numerous empty commercial businesses and residential homes throughout East Windsor. And those of us who remain, must pick up for those empty locations and lack of payments. That's part of the reason why our taxes are so high. And when WaWa looks to build a super WaWa with a gas station and Walmart looks to expand into a super Walmart, and both are rejected by our township, that affects each and everyone of us. Because two large stores like those would be taxed heavily, which would help alleviate our taxes.

I've got it! A small indoor mall that features a bank, a pizzeria, Chinese food and a liquor store. You people are kidding yourselves when you think Whole foods, Trader Joe's, B & N or any other successful and reputable chain is willing to deal w/ the nonsense that goes on in EW. By the way what ever happened to Kohl's, the YMCA and the fancy stores near Twin Rivers? Pooof!!!!

We need a nother grocerey store!! such as Aldies or bottom Dollar. Shoprite needs copotition. We have not 1 store that comes close to their size or prices.

Jamesway! I love it. Thanks for the chuckle! A healthy food option like Whole Foods or Trader Joes would certainly be nice, but somehow I don't think it would happen. I have often looked at the Genuardi's space and thought it would make an awesome indoor skate park, youth center with various options,etc. I also figured that would not likely happen given the insurance and low return on income draw given the likely high rent it commands. Having facilities for all ages would be nice though. I also think with the opening of iPlay America in Freehold that there is not enough market share to warrant another such entertainment palace this close. I could be wrong. I don't know how successful iPlay is in making money. We went twice but found the costs to be a bit steep for more regular business. Whatever moves in will have to be sustainable in its draw in order to be successful longterm.

How about what to do with the whole shopping complex? Most of it is empty and it seems like the owners need to do a complete renovation. Similar to what is being done in Princeton Jct. with the old acme. Upscale won't work here and that market is saturated. Possibly break it down into smaller stores or a large scale Amish market like the one in Kingston,

I would like to see a community center, with diverse activities for all ages, an option for local folk to have occasional opportunities for table space for selling crafts and other goods. Failing all that, we have many homeless cats and dogs and other pets that need a home very badly, especially since Sandy struck.

There are people like me who never ever go to Shoprite because it is too big and too crowded. I actually order almost everything online these days; they bring it to the door, most without shipping charges, and I can easily compare prices and get good buys. And yes, there are those who will deliver frozen and refrigerator foods.

Vincent - Tiger's Deli closed because both owners were in their late 70's/ early 80's and they wanted to retire and their kids didn't want to take over. The paint store is still open by the way. The plaza has been hit with some bad luck - Blockbuster closed as are 1000's of others around the country and Super Fresh closed as part of other closings. There are some good things happending though - Sprint opened up though and PNC remodeled their location. For some reason, EW can't support more than 1 supermarket. At one point, we had three...

We should have a market specializing in Latino food to serve the needs of the peoples. We have no place to get naranjilla, uvilla, taxo or cabra or cuy. Such a store would help Latinos and bring more to the community.

That is not why Tiger's Deli closed. First of all Mrs Tiger had passed away. R.I.P! Second of all, Claudia had no issues continuing with the business. After all, it was all she knew. The problem was their business dropped off significantly after Super Fresh closed. It was no longer profitable. Their business went down and their rent kept going up. Super Fresh was the anchor that brought all of the businesses there a lot of foot traffice. And you can go to that Sprint store anytime of the day and count the amount of customers in there on one hand and still have plenty of fingers left for the game, Once, Twice, Three: Shoot. And unless another anchor store occupies that location, we'll be seeing other stores closing down soon. The paint store had to lay off the helpers that once worked there. They are currently struggling. Sabrina's basically gives away pies for cost on Sunday's just to get business. And Sprint is always empty. And that is just one side of the L shaped strip mall. The other side has several empty locations that nobody seems to be interested in renting. That entire location is in trouble.

To Allan, I like West Windsor's Arts Council which has nice activities for young & old alike. I had already said a Wegmans or Trader Joe's would be my preference, but I've always like the idea of an arts center.

Top Tomato-A great small supermarket chain that specializes in produce, Italian specialties, with unbelievable bakery and deli. Thay took over the closed Acme in Freehold and do a great business.

There are two major problems with this shopping center right now. First, the market has shifted from this intersection to the Shoprite Center where there are virtually no vacancies but the same or higher rents. Secondly, the banks today are making it almost impossible to get financing to open new small businesses that would fill this center and bring more customers to the center. Even when a businessman can get financing they are going to the most dynamic center in the market and it isn't Windsor Hights Shopping Center any more. The center owners are going to have to make some incentivized deals with name brand tenants, revitalize the center and then bring in the smaller tenants to fill the stores. Unfortunately, the old owners of the center allowed the center to go into a death spiral by neglecting vacancies, not working with existing tenants to renew leases at more reasonable terms in light of the lack of new business start-ups and they did not maintain the center to today's standards. Until the center's ownership comes up with a viable plan to draw more customers and tenants, whatever goes into that space faces an uphill battle.
