MCCC’s Center for Continuing Studies to Offer New Courses in High-Tech Fields

WEST WINDSOR – With three new, revamped computer labs equipped with the latest in hardware and software, Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) Center for Continuing Studies (CCS) will debut three programs focusing on the most in-demand technologies.

“Our students told us what they wanted, and we responded,” said CCS Assistant Director Read Langan. “That’s a huge advantage we have: we can respond faster in giving the community the courses they need.”

This fall, CCS students will have the option of enrolling in non-credit courses in Mobile Apps Development, Introduction to Automation Using Programmable Logic Controllers, and a certificate program in IT Risk Management/Cyber Security. All three fields have seen significant growth in just the past two years.

The Mobile Apps Development course focuses on the design and writing of simple Android and iPhone applications in a hands-on format during a 10-week session that begins on Sept. 28, while the IT Risk Management/Cyber Security certificate program offers comprehensive instruction designed to protect computer systems from hackers, viruses, worms, and other threats to confidential information.  The cyber security course, which runs from Oct. 7 to Nov. 25, is geared toward information technology professionals and chief information officers, as well as others charged with safeguarding business computer networks.

The Introduction to Automation Using Programmable Logic Controllers course runs from Sept. 20 to Dec. 20 and is designed for electricians, industrial maintenance mechanics/automation technicians and energy management systems operators. The course focuses on manufacturing and service company settings where efficiency and cost reductions are being implemented through automated systems. A required information session will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
