Green Garden Grow

Growing a garden can be easy!

Our garden is the fruit and labor of my dear hubby’s hard work. For the past five years, he has cultivated a small area of our side yard into a garden (and compost too) that feeds us all summer long. I, sadly, have nothing to do with this project other than I water the plants when my hubby is away on business, and of course to pluck the tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers for the evening’s dinner.

Several weeks ago, Hubby began this seasons’ crops. Together, with the children, they seeded and prepped tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, green beans, watermelon and not shown in the photo, herbs – including cilantro, rosemary, basil, oregano and parsley. This morning, to the delight and glee of my children, the corn and green beans began to sprout. Soon, my horticulturists will transplant these baby sprouts into our garden.

This season, I plan to document their project and share with you photos, stories and recipes. Join my family in planting a garden.  Even if you don’t have a plot of land to spare, big planting pots (Christmas Tree Shops sells just the perfect size) can be easily substituted and are very beautiful to look at.  Not only is the a fun project for the entire family to participate in, it’s healthy too! Happy Planting!

How to Plant Your Garden

Decide if you are going to plant in a garden or in several potted pots.  This will determine how many seed packets to purchase.

Select seeds of your families veggies and herbs.  I recommend one packet per veggie or herb.

Purchase multi-cell biodegradable seed pots. Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart sell them.

Follow directions on the seed packets and watch seedlings grow.
