Never a Dull Moment

Meet an East Windsor mom as she tries to balance motherhood and her career.

Alarm clock rings at 6 a.m.  My bed is crowded with my little creatures and although they are warm and cuddly, my shorts and sneakers are calling my name. Thirty minutes later, with a great run under my belt, I go back to wake up the wildlife.

Unless it's a weekend or holiday or summer vacation, I have better luck turning water into wine than waking up my children. Twenty-five minutes later, I am ready and dressed for the day and the troops are just beginning to stir. Back into the kitchen I go to make lunches. Ham and cheese with light mayo cut into triangles (or was that heart shapes?), grapes, juice box (cold — but not frozen) and cookies goes in one lunch box. Crustless turkey and one slice of cheese with absolutely no mayo sandwich, grapes, Spider-Man thermos (apple juice —hold the water) and cookies goes into the other lunch box as I struggle to find the moment when I became a short order cook.

Twenty minutes later, the stampede of two tears its way into the kitchen led by their Papa Bear. After negotiating the benefits of cereal versus Oreo cookies for breakfast, I have Papa Bear and his cub out the door and one left to get on the bus. Clean up the morning dishes, argue why it's not appropriate for a 6-year-old to have her own iPod touch and wipe the sink clean (as if the sink police will ticket me for leaving the house with a sink full of dishes) and then run out to the bus stop with a kiss and a wave. In my car, my radio station on, the clock reads 8:29 a.m. and I can breathe again.

My name is Cristina C. Fowler and there is most certainly never a dull moment in my life. I am a wife, mother to two children, marketing manager, blogger, Girl Scout leader, to name just a few of my jobs. I tend to bite off a little more than I can chew, but in the end, I find a way to get it all done. I blog to feel more like me circa BC (before children). I blog to share my insights on motherhood. I blog to leave a record for my future shelf. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I do have opinions and ideas that, until now, have only been shared with my amazing and supportive family and friends who make my life full and happy. I hope you will enjoy my bizarre and random thoughts about motherhood as much as I enjoy experiencing them. Visit me for a laugh, a good cry, or a place to vent. My name is Cristina, and this is my blog.
