Can Someone Loan me a Helicopter?

An alternative view of "Choppergate."

Over the past few days, I have watched with amusement the stories and over-the-top media coverage for the Governor's helicopter rides. While I am not going to comment about the issue itself I do want to say this "Can someone loan ME a Helicopter?"

Let's think about this. Traffic, New Jersey traffic is not the easiest thing in the world to deal with. How many of us have been stuck on Route 1 near the Quakerbridge Mall ? Or how about going through Princeton during the day?

And maybe the granddaddy of them all — the drive down the shore?

How nice would it be to step into the helicopter and rise above it all? Let's see, new morning routine. Wake up, get dressed, grab coffee, step out for the drive to work, State Police helicopter arrives, step into chopper, fly the 10 miles to work (waving at the little people below), reverse the process to come home that evening.

Doesn't that sound nice? But wait — isn't there a downside?

If all of us have the chopper to fly to work, then the sky would be as crowded as the roads, almost defeating the purpose of getting into that chopper in the first place. Leaving the roads fairly empty.

For the Governor. End of problem!
