Cranbury Library Explains 'Library Tax'

It's nothing new, and the library is still one of the best deals in town!

When you receive your third-quarter tax bill next month, you’ll notice a new line labeled "Public Library Tax." I, and the Board of Trustees, want to reassure you that this is not a new tax. A recently passed state law requires your public library tax to be displayed on a separate line from the general municipal tax. The amount of your general municipal tax was reduced by the exact amount of your Public Library Tax. The total tax remains the same so there is no increase in your taxes. (Communities with county libraries have always had a separate tax line for their county library.)

As a Cranbury Township taxpayer, you have access to a world of information at your library, and we’re sure you will think it is a bargain! Besides the books, magazines, DVDs, audio and e-books you can borrow, we provide many programs and services. We offer computer classes, Tech Hours with one-on-one help, and early literacy programming. We provide access to multiple computer resources, including Job & Career Accelerator for those seeking employment, Mango Languages to help you learn a new language, and the Morningstar Investment Research Center, to name a few. Our summer reading program is for all ages and encourages everyone to read. Our staff can help you find the answers you need or notarize a document.

Stop by the library or check out our website at www.cranburypubliclibrary.org  to find out more. If you don’t already have a library card, you’ll be surprised at how much you’re missing! Stop by and get a library card today.
