Down the Shore: Roller Girls, Bar Specials, Irish Fest

What to do at the beach this weekend.

With weekend forecasts calling for at least one day free of rain, it may well be worth a trip down the shore to enjoy the start of summer.

Looking for tips on which beach is best for you and the family? . Looking for something to do while you're nursing that suntan? Check out the events below!

EVENTS

Asbury Park's Convention Hall, 1300 Ocean Ave., will open its doors to the Murder Beach Militia vs. the Right Coast Rollers in a  that will help determine which group of hard-hitting girls make it to the Jersey Shore Roller Girls championship this fall.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with first whistle at 8 p.m. All ages are welcome but you must be 21 to drink. Advance tickets are available for $15 when purchased from a roller girl or $17 online.  Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 with military ID and $5 for children. 

"American Idol" alum Justin Guarini will take his vocal talents to Beach Haven's Surflight Theatre for a  the Broadway musical favorite.

Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach is celebrating father's day by welcoming dads free with a kid's admission.

The aquarium, at 300 Ocean Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission for children ages 3 to 12 is $6, and kids younger than 3 are free.

Fights Under the Lights: MMA at the Jersey Shore will be presented Saturday by Central Jersey Blood Center at FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood Blueclaws.

There will be 16 bouts at the park, 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood. First fight starts at 8:15 p.m. Click here to buy tickets.

Feeling lucky? Head over to the, which will kick off at noon at Morris and 3rd avenues.

A number of musical acts will keep the crowd entertained until 4 p.m., and attendees can enjoy traditional fare at the food court.

NIGHTLIFE

, 213 Route 37 East, Toms River-  “one hundred thousand welcomes” with a friendly pub atmosphere, live music and great beer.

Friday: Crusher Blackwell performs live. Drink specials include $3 Heineken Lights.

Saturday: Live music with The Void at 10 p.m. $2.50 Bud Lights.

Brickhouse, 979 Cedarbridge Ave, Brick- Brickhouse Bar & Grille offers a full menu and a full bar selection. A great spot to hit up for happy hour or a Saturday night out.

Friday: Live entertainment with Trax at 9:30 p.m. Drink specials include $2.50 Heineken mugs and $3.50 Heineken bottles.

Saturday: Live entertainment with Billy Lawlor Band at 9:30 p.m. Drink specials include $2.50 Miller Lite mugs and $3.00 Miller Light bottles.

Sunday: World Tavern Poker from non to 3 p.m.

Idle Hour, 2600 Route 88, Point Pleasant- Idle Hour is “your neighborhood sports bar” with daily drink specials and live entertainment on the weekends.

Friday: All day happy hour until 6 p.m. with $2 domestic bottles and domestic pints. Live music with Overtime.

Sunday: Live music with Undisputed, $2.75 Bud Light pints and $3.75 Bud Light bottles.

Manasquan — Leggett’s Sand Bar is one of the most popular and bustling clubs at the Shore. Their daily drink specials are some of the best in the region.

Friday: $2 happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. and $2 Coors Lights from noon to closing.  Turnpike Mike and Randy on the patio starting at 5 p.m.

Saturday: Lee & Sherry on the patio from 1 to 5 p.m. Bud Bingo from 2 to 5 p.m. Prime rib night from 5 to 10 p.m. with $2 Bud and Bud Lights all day. $5 Jack Daniels Honey drinks from noon to 6 p.m.

Sunday: Blu Sky Duo with Jim Long on the patio from 2 to 6 p.m. Under Pressure at 10 p.m.

Harrigan’s Pub, 703 Baltimore Blvd, Sea Girt

“Failze,” or “welcome” is the slogan at this pub. A cozy yet bustling place, Harrigan’s provides good times all around.

Friday: Live music with Todd Robbins.

Saturday: Music by The Bantry Boys.

Joe Pop’s, 2002 Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom- Joe Pop’s is one of the most popular shore bars and restaurants, consistently voted a top nightclub by shore residents.

Friday: $5 drink specials every hour starting at 9 p.m. Trippin Carla will be performing live.

Saturday: Party continues with one of the hottest cover bands in New Jersey, The Nerds, at 10:30 p.m.

Sunday: Half-priced drinks and drafts all night, no cover.

RESTAURANTS

 — The newest addition in town, Portuguese Shamrock, which was formerly the Draughting Table, is an Irish pub with a Portuguese-inspired menu. There is currently no live entertainment, but there are a few dinner specials.

Weekend dinner specials: Prime Rib $24, soft shell crab appetizer $8, soft shell crab dinner $16, New Zealand clams appetizer $11.

Manasquan Beach House, 390 E. Main St,, Manasquan — This historical house goes back more than a century, when it began life as a boarding house. Today it serves as a casual restaurant and bar just a few blocks from Manasquan’s beaches.

— Johnny Piacone's offers fine Italian food in a classy setting. The local favorite is known for it's wine list, and is open until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 

Nardi's Tavern, 118th Street & Boulevard, Long Beach Island — Nardi's offers traditional American fare in a fun, laid-back atmosphere.

A favorite for locals and tourists alike, Nardi's is perfect for good food, drink specials and great bands. Drink too much? Don't worry — Nardi's party van will take you safely anywhere on the island.
