East Windsor Breast Health Center Dedicates Lending Library

The Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation has given more than $100,000 to the center.

The lending library at in East Windsor was named this month in honor of Christina S. Walsh, who died of breast cancer in 2004, according to a news release.

“I am honored that Christina’s name will be remembered through this library, which provides education and comfort to so many,” said Robert Walsh, Christina’s husband and trustee of the foundation, in the release.

The library, which has more than 30 books on topics including education on treatment options, coping, healthy living and children’s books on breast cancer, is funded through the Christina S. Walsh Breast Cancer Foundation which gives an annual grant to the center. The grant is also used for a breast cancer screening program for indigent women, gift cards for groceries, and robes and post-operative camisoles for patients, the release said.

“Over the years, we have used these funds to provide meaningful comfort, education and vital services to our patients,” Beth Krefski, director of the Breast Health Center, said in the release. “We felt that dedicating the library in Christina’s name was the best way to show our gratitude for the foundation’s generosity.”

The foundation, which has given more than $100,000 to the Breast Health Center, was formed in 2004 in Walsh’s final weeks after her family and friends covered the cost of a private medical jet to get her back to New Jersey from Florida where she was visiting Disney World and became ill. Walsh wanted to provide relief to others with breast cancer, and the foundation was formed to carry out her wishes, the release said.
