Excessive Heat Warning Issued Through Thursday

Temperatures are expected to near 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.

Residents can expect sweltering heat through Thursday, as the heat index will reach more than 100 degrees. 

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through 6 a.m. Thursday and urged residents to take precautions.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 99 today with a heat index around 100 degrees, and on Wednesday temperatures will reach around 96 with the heat index around 105 degrees.

“The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation,” the advisory said.

Recommended precautions include:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned location
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check on elderly relatives and neighbors
  • Do not leave people or a pet in a parked vehicle
  • Wear light and loose fitting clothing

People who must be outside should take frequent breaks and stay well hydrated, and to be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Call 9-1-1 for anyone suffering from a heat stroke, the advisory said.
