Girl Scout Organizes Cranbury Cleanup, Works Toward Silver Award

The Saturday cleanup netted two bags of recyclables and five bags of trash.

Cranbury resident and girl scout Lisa D'souza organized a cleanup in town as she worked toward her silver award.

Volunteers met at Town Hall where D'souza distributed gloves, trash and recycle bags, neon vests and trash pickers. Groups were formed and areas around town were assigned for the cleanup.

D'souza said she picked this type of event because although there's an annual stream cleanup, there are a lot of other places with trash in Cranbury.

The volunteers filled five bags of trash and two bags of recyclables, including an old tractor part, plates, canisters, plastic bags, cigarette butts, candy wrappers and plastic bottles.

The girl scout silver award requires the project to be sustainable, so D'souza is creating a manual for the town for future cleanups, and fundraising for more vests to leave with the Public Works department.
