Girl Scouts Collect, Restore and Sell Used Sports Equipment

Girl Scout Troop 71032 collected, cleaned and sorted gently used and new sports equipment before selling it at an affordable price to earn a silver award.

“All of our troop members enjoy playing sports and we all know firsthand how expensive sports equipment can be, so the goal of our project was to make participating in sports more affordable for all families,” Girl Scout Kaylee Cesard said in an email.

Almost 850 pieces of sports equipment, including baseballs, gloves, pogo sticks and golf clubs, were collected from the community, Cesard said.

“The weather was not very cooperative, but we were very happy that did not keep people away,” Cesard said. “It was a very rewarding experience.”

The Sports Equipment “Almost” Giveaway was held March 31 at the East Windsor PAL fields and almost 500 items were distributed to more than 100 families.

“It was a great feeling to see children and their parents smile when the ice skates they tried on fit or when the whole family decided to get tennis racquets.  We hope that we can continue to run an event like this in the future, or that we can partner with another group in town to encourage people to share used sports equipment with others,” Cesard said.
