Guard and Reserve Training Exercises This Weekend

If you hear a strange noise this weekend, it's National Guard and Reserve units conducting motar fire training.

The following information was released by the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Office of Community Affairs.

Four units comprising both National Guard and Reserve service members are scheduled to conduct mortar-firing training at the Dix ranges this weekend.

Training is slated to occur between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Units conducting training include three National Guard units from Westfield, New Haven, Conn., Long Island, N.Y., and a Marine Corps reserve unit from West Palm Beach, Fla.

The training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. As a result of these units performing their important training, residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions.
