Local League of Women Voters Affiliate Celebrates 40 Years

Three members were honored at Saturday's celebration.

Three members of the League of Women Voters of East Windsor-Hightstown were honored Saturday at the 40 year celebration of the local League, a news release said. 

Honorees included charter members Judith Arnold, Rita Strmensky, and Sylvia Weiss, who helped found the local League in 1972. President Deborah Macmillan presented them with statements honoring their work with the League.

The celebration included sharing memories and photos, and remembering news articles from early on through the present, the release said.

Mercer County Freeholder Ann Cannon also read honoring statements from the Board of Freeholders, the release said. Cannon is a League member.

Some of the League of Women Voters’ activities include holding candidates’ forums for both the general election and school board election, provides information on local elections and is co-sponsoring a film series with Community Unity, the release said. There is 850 affiliates across the country.
