Main Street in Hightstown Reopened

The extent of the damage is still unknown.

Main Street in downtown Hightstown was reopened around 8 p.m. Thursday, Borough officials said.

The Department of Transportation confirmed the bridge was safe, Mayor Steven Kirson said in an email.

"The Hightstown Fire Dept washed the roadway to remove debris to ensure safe passage," Kirson said.

Next week DOT and Hightstown officials will meet to discuss the course of action to repair the damage, since Main Street is a state road, Kirson said.

The DOT was originally scheduled to come in August to repair Route 33 but it hadn't been done yet, Kirson said.
