History of New Jersey in Photos Headed to Cranbury

The program will be held March 25.

by Marilynn G. Mullen, Director,

I’m really excited about the upcoming program the Friends of the Cranbury Public Library are sponsoring in March. Timeline New Jersey takes a look at New Jersey’s history through photographs and lecture.

“Travel on a timeline from the primeval dawn of the Highlands into the Ice Age. Meet New Jersey’s first people and explorers. Take pride in our rich Colonial and Revolutionary heritage.  Celebrate the events and numerous ‘firsts’ that make New Jersey special!”  This is what Walter Choroszewski writes on his flyer describing the program.

Walter Choroszewski is a New Jersey photographer and author of several books on the state. As it says on his website, www.walterc.com, “NEW JERSEY, A Scenic Discovery was published in 1981 and established his photographic identity and lifelong link to the Garden State.  Walter's photography was also the inspiration for the popular New Jersey state tourism campaign: 'NEW JERSEY & You ...Perfect Together.'  He continued as the primary photographer of the New Jersey state tourism campaigns through the 1980s and 1990s.”

I browsed a book of his photographs that we have in the library.  The people and places are inspiring.  They reminded me of the beauty that surrounds each of us every day.  We just need to slow down and take the time to stop and really look around us.
