Poll: Are the Golden Years Tarnished for NJ Retirees?

TopRetirement.com doesn't think highly of New Jersey as a place for retirees. Do you agree?

New Jersey might be the , but you better skedaddle before your golden years. The state is the sixth worst place to retire, according to rankings from TopRetirements.com.

Unsurprisingly for most homeowners, New Jersey’s high property taxes hit the state’s retirement rankings. New Jersey has the highest tax burden in the nation and a high cost of living, says John Brady, Top Retirements president.

Top Retirements used a combination of fiscal health, taxes, cost of living and climate to come up with the worst states to retire list.

But what if you care about, for example, cost of living but not climate? The company has lists that allow you to ignore one factor and see a reshuffled list of the worst states to retire. (Spoiler alert: ignoring any of the four factors still places New Jersey in the top 10 of worst places for retirees in all categories.)
