Terhune Orchards Wins State Award for Peach Wine

Silver Decoy Winery in East Windsor also took home two medals.

 

Terhune Orchards won a gold medal and the Governor's Cup for Fruit Wine in the 2013 New Jersey Wine Competition. 

It won for its non-vintage Peach wine. It also earned three silver medals, for the non-vintage Barn Red, Front Porch Breeze and Harvest Blues, as well as three bronze medals for the Cold Soil White, Apple and Vidal Blanc.

Silver Decoy Winery, of East Windsor, won silver medals for Best Vinifera and Best Estate, both for its 2010 Syrah. It was awarded silver for the 2010 Cabernet Franc, and bronze medals for their 2011 Traminette, 2011 Raspberry and 2010 Merlot.

The competition is conducted annually by the Rutgers University Cooperative Extension under the supervision of Rutgers University wine expert, Dr. Gary Pavlis, and over 140 medals were awarded. A total of 250 wines were featured.

The judges are certified wine judges, sommeliers and wine buyers, educators and retailers.

Alba Vineyard, of Milford, was named the Winery of the Year, and a total of 24 members of the Garden State Wine Growers Association (GSWGA), took home medals.

The medals were handed out at an awards ceremony on Monday, May 27, at the Garden State Wine Growers Association’s Blues & Wine Festival at Natirar Park in Peapack-Gladstone in Somerset County.
