East Windsor police arrested an East Windsor resident of the Windsor Castle apartments for allegedly dealing drugs out of his apartment. Police executed a search warrant at Pedro Lopez’s address on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 31. Several ounces of marijuana, scales, packaging materials, non-prescribed prescription narcotics, and a set of brass knuckles were seized in the investigation from Lopez’s apartment, according to police.

Borough Hall Decision Postponed

The Hightstown Borough Council has postponed making a decision on what to do about Borough Hall, according to centraljersey.com. According to centraljersey.com, Hightstown had received one bid to provide a temporary modular facility to be used as a new Borough Hall. However, rather than accept or reject the bid, the council tabled a decision.

Peddie Alum Becomes Wesleyan's Men's Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer

Wesleyan senior Shasha Brown, who graduatedThe Peddie School in 2008, made history on Sunday, Feb. 3 when he sunk a free throw with 4:04 remaining in the game at Hamilton College. This point was the 1,693rd of Brown's career for the Cardinals, moving him past Kanem Johnson who had 1,692 as the all-time leading scorer in the 113-year history of basketball at Wesleyan. Brown finished with 17 points in a 62-57 loss. 

 

New Firefighters Join Cranbury and East Windsor Fire Companies

The Monmouth County Fire Academy graduated three men who will join local fire departments along with 57 other firefighters from Monmouth, Mercer, and Ocean counties. Jason Fazzaro and James Taylor will join theCranbury Township Volunteer Fire Company and Samuel Gomez, Jr. will join East Windsor Township Fire Department #2.

 

East Windsor BOE Recognizes Princeton Alum for Free Tutoring

Adrian Colarusso, a recent graduate of Princeton University, volunteered six Saturday mornings at Hightstown High School to provide a free Princeton Review SAT Preparation Course for twelve students. At the Feb. 11 meeting, the Board of Education recognized and thanked Colarusso for this outstanding endeavor.

 

Local Students Move on to Regional Spelling Bee

Three local elementary school students showed off their spelling expertise last month, which will propel them to a regional competition later this month. First place winner Nathan Ackerman, a fifth grader at  received a $50 Dairy Queen gift card, while second place winner Ishika Raj, a fifth grader at Perry L. Drew Elementary School, and third place winner Vineeth Duggirala, a fifth grader at McKnight, also received gift cards from Dairy Queen.

 

Homeless Man Charged with Posession of Child Pornography 

The Hightstown Police Department announced that it apprehended a homeless man in connection with receiving and possessing child pornography. According to police, on Thursday, Feb. 14, Hightstown Borough Police Department, in cooperation with Department of Homeland Security-Immigration Custom Enforcement Child Pornography Unit, apprehended Jonathan Mendheim, 33, on a United States Arrest Warrant issued for the Eastern District of Tennessee at approximately 5:30 p.m., in the parking lot of Michael’s Plaza, Mercer Street.

 

Home Heating Oil Found in Peddie Lake

The Hightstown Fire Department conducted an investigation on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6:52 p.m., on an unknown substance found in the Peddie Lake. According to information from the Hightstown Police Department, the Hightstown Fire Department, along with the Hamilton Township Hazardous Materials Response Team, and the state Department of Environmental Protection responded to the incident and determined the substance to be a fuel oil utilized to heat a residence.
