East Windsor Man Charged with Aggravated Assault with Weapon

Pedro Lopez, of East Windsor, was arrested on Friday, Feb. 22 and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon stemming from a fight that broke out at the park on Westfield Road, East Windsor Police reported. 

Brainerd Lake Dam Project to Address Flooding Issues

Cranbury Township is set to begin an extensive rehabilitation project on the Brainerd Lake dam and bridge in hopes of reducing the ongoing impact from flooding. While the project will not completely solve flooding issues from the lake, the work is expected to mitigate some of the problems caused by the aging structure, which is over 100 years old.

Peddie Men's Swim Team Has Historic Easterns

The Peddie Men's Swim Team had a historic weekend at the 113th Easterns Interscholastic Swim and Diving Championship winning every event in the two-day meet, except the 50-yard freestyle. 

East Windsor Sponsors Gun Safety Program

East Windsor Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov announced that East Windsor Township is sponsoring a Gun Safety Program, through which gun locks will be distributed free of charge to any East Windsor resident. The program begins Friday, March 1, and will run through the end of the month.

Trenton-Mercer Airport Will Stay Open During Impending Sequestration

The Trenton-Mercer Airport will remain open regardless of cuts that may happen if Congress doesn't come to agreement by the Sequestation deadline on March 1.  Should sequestration take place, over the next seven months the federal budget will be cut by $85 billion, with an additional $1.2 trillion used for deficit reductions over the next 10 years, including in the FAA's Contract Tower Program. That program funds control tower services at about 250 control towers, including Trenton-Mercer Airport.

Penns Neck Resident Proposes Route 1 Alternative

Although the New Jersey Department of Transportation has proposed a concept plan to reduce congestion along Route 1, a Penns Neck resident says it's not the right solution. "This is exactly the (failed) pilot plan, but it's worse because they're adding a light," said Eric Payne. "Anytime you add a stop, you add delay. Adding lanes is good, but adding a light will nullify it. Let's bite the bullet and do it right the first time." 

East Windsor Man Helps in New Orleans

Marco Ramirez Becerra, a sophomore corporate communication and advertising major from East Windsor, traveled to New Orleans over winter break with the Marquette University Mardi Gras program. Mardi Gras, which stands for Making A Real Difference in the Gulf Region and Areas Surrounding, is a student-run organization at Marquette created in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf region. 

A fourteen-year-old boy of East Windsor allegedly damaged property within a Windsor Castle Apartment, owned by a family member, and then attempted to leave the area in a vehicle at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, police said.

East Windsor and Cranbury Schools to See No Change in State Aid

Gov. Chris Christie’s proposed state aid package for New Jersey public schools in 2014 is $8.7 billion and both the East Windsor Regional School District and the Cranbury School District will be obtaining approximately the same amount of funding they received the year before, according to an NJ Spotlight report.
