Week in Review: Guilty Plea, Budgets Pass, East Windsor Adds a Council Member and Hightstown Looks for One

The news was plentiful last week, so here's your chance to catch up.

We had a ton of news last week and we realize you don't necessarily have the time to read everything as it goes live. It's understandable—we here at Patch are pretty busy, and we imagine you are too.

So in that spirit of understanding, here's a little cheat sheet to recap the big stories of the week:

  • The Hightstown Borough Council voted, 3-2,  on public comments at its meetings. Four of the five members also said they wanted to consider . This upcoming Monday, the council will choose a new member from  to replace former councilman Dimitri Musing, a Democrat, and it will also look at adopting the 2011 municipal budget.
  • The East Windsor Township Council  to replace former deputy mayor Walter T. Daniels Jr. (see below). The council also . Annual township taxes will now rise about $40 for the average homeowner.
  • Walter T. Daniels Jr., the former deputy mayor and 15-year East Windsor Township Council veteran, to driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit breath samples. Daniels resigned from the council in March, three weeks after his arrest and soon after Hightstown police released the incident report in which officers said Daniels asked them to call their superiors on his behalf.
  • Voters for the East Windsor Regional and Cranbury school districts. In East Windsor, newcomer Lisa Abel beat Board President Alice Weisman for the one open spot to represent the township, while uncontested incumbents held the two open spots representing Hightstown. In Cranbury, the three incumbents—Jennifer Cooke, Kevin Fox and Evelyn Spann—defeated lone newcomer Pramod Chivate for the three open seats on the K-8 district's board.
