Weekend Guide: Pet Adoption Day Saturday

Home Depot is also holding a free Kids Workshop.

Dogs and cats of all ages, colors and sizes will be at Saturday’s Animal Friends for Education and Welfare (AFEW) Pet Adoption Day at Corner-Copia, at the corner of Princeton-Hightstown Road and Old Trenton Road, said AFEW's veterinary chairperson Marilyn Hondop.

AFEW works with the Hamilton Township Animal Shelter and is a network of foster homes for pets in need of a home.

The public is invited to come out and meet the pets on Saturday, and if interested in adopting, fill out an application, Hondop said. Once an application is approved, there is normally an adoption of fee for $200 to $350 a pet (with the fee being higher for purebred animals). All AFEW pets have had their shots and most are spayed, she said.

Animals in need of a home include a yellow lab named Charlie.

“[Charlie] looks a lot like Marley [from the movie Marley & Me], is playful and has a great personality,” Hondop said.

There is also Brewster, a Shih Tzu, and Coco, a female dog who is “a good chewer, but only on her Nylabone, anything else, furniture and shoes are safe,” according to the AFEW website.
