New Jersey Election 2013: Mercer Freeholder Board Remains All-Democrat

Koontz and Carabelli defeated Cefalone and Hummel.

Mercer County Democrats will retain 5-0 control of the freeholder board.

Freeholder Vice Chair Andrew Koontz of Princeton and Freeholder Anthony P. Carabelli of Trenton beat back a challenge by Republicans Ron Cefalone of Hopewell and Paul Hummel of East Windsor for the full-term seats.

Carabelli was the top vote-getter with 46,861 ballots, according to unofficial results from the Mercer County Clerk’s Office with 95 percent of districts reporting. Running mate Koontz garnered 44,208. Cefalone received 31,977 votes and Hummel had 30,643.

A Republican has not sat on the freeholder board since 1997, according to nj.com.
